Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer, recording artist and producer. He has played with legends such as Chuck Berry, Charlie Daniels and Elvin Bishop. But perhaps Melvin is most revered for his powerful and high-spirited Hammond B-3 organ and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band, adding his gospel-soul touches to the rhythm and blues base of the JGB. Melvin continues to treat music lovers to his unique brand of melodic flavor with his latest projects, Vitamin B-3 and Melvin Seals' Melting Pot.
Scott Law has been able to challenge genre boundaries and make contributions in both acoustic and electric music for over two decades. A fixture on the northwest music scene, he has performed, toured and/or recorded with Seattle's finest including Hanuman, The Living Daylights, Tough Mama, Odd Men Out, Orville Johnson, members of Critters Buggin', Crack Sabbath and many others. He has produced eight full-length CD titles since 1992 as well as appeared on numerous others. From solo acoustic performances to raging electric solo flights, his grit and enthusiasm for great music radiates! He has toured nationally with the "acoustic free-folk funk" band Hanuman (1999-2001) and also performs throughout the northwest fronting his own electric quintet, The Scott Law Band or playing solo acoustic.
Scott's pedigree is the crossroads of blues, jazz, funk, rock and bluegrass… He is a soulful and spontaneous player with an expressive singing style, easy-going stage presence and great original tunes. While many influences inform his playing and writing, Scott is refining a voice of his own on acoustic, electric and slide guitar, mandolin and lap-steel. A fearless improviser, his tone, groove and tastiness are constantly evolving!
Chris Haugen is a seasoned and innovative performer. His playing demonstrates an intuitive and individual style, founded in American roots music. Chris is well known in the industry for his musical diversity, remarkable chops, and solid professionalism. Chris doubles on lap steel, mandolin, and backing vocals. Former lead guitarist and songwriter for the critically acclaimed touring band, Jambay, Chris logged nearly 1,500 engagements during the last ten years. In addition to live performance, Chris continues to be in high demand for sub-contract, studio, composition, and solo work. Chris is featured on seven full-length CD releases, and his original songs have appeared on CMJ's "Top Play" lists.
Chris has played by invitation with legends Taj Mahal, JJ Cale, and Vince Welnick (The Tubes, and The Grateful Dead), and newcomers Hanson. In addition he has shared concert billing with The Allman Brothers, Dave Matthews Band, Sheryl Crow, Phish, Lenny Kravatz, Rickie Lee Jones, and Blues Traveler. Chris has performed at major US Festivals, including HORDE, Laguna Seca Daze, Gathering of the Vibes, and Bumbershoot, among others.
Dennis Smith (“Deep Den”) is an Oakland, California based musician specializing in recording and live performance on the fretless and fretted 4 and 5 string electric basses. He has been recording and performing professionally for 25 + years. Dennis is a life-long student of the Jazz idiom and considers himself fortunate to have performed with some of the world’s best musicians. Although a student of Jazz, Dennis has developed an independent style that fuses Jazz with Funk, Rhythm and Blues, Rock, Reggae, West African, Middle Eastern, and Western Classical styles. This fusion allows him to contribute to a wide variety of music and artists.
Dennis has worked and toured with many world class artists, musicians and producers including Harvey Fuqua (Motown), Leon Sylvers, Sylvester, Jeannie Tracy, Melvin Seals & JGB (The Jerry Garcia Band), Pharoah Sanders, Gail Muldrow, Cynthia Robinson (Sly & The Family Stone, Graham Central Station), William Kennedy, Cody Moffett, Forrest Buchtel, Kenneth Nash, Samba Ngo, Bruce Burger & RebbeSoul, Common Tongue, Charles Moffett, Sr., Ed Kelly, Art Lande, Ze’ Manel, Arsenio Kounde, and many others. In addition to his work as a recording session musician and performing musician, Dennis has also produced several projects for other artists and has produced soundtracks and theme music for marketing films and advertisements.
Stephen Hund is a drummer and vocalist based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been playing drums since he was a young child and today continues to break new ground in style, technique and expression. Using strong influences from funk, jazz, rock, soul, and techno, Stephen presents a unique and interesting sound in his playing. He grew up in Virginia where he cut his chops playing and touring with several successful bands including PSI and the Founders. At the University of Virginia, Stephen studied jazz drumming and theory with drummer-extraordinaire Robert Jospe. Moving to San Francisco in 1998, he set up a successful private drum instruction studio that still exists today, and he began worked as a session drummer for both live and studio gigs. In San Francisco, Stephen has played with, among others, Jasper Thresh, the Chris Brooks Band, Zach Gil’s Wonder Bakery, the Pat Burtis Trio, the Black Nativity orchestra, Brother Freak and Melvin Seals Melting Pot. Stephen has also performed with the STOMP-inspired Boom Operators rhythm troupe at Universal Studios in Hollywood. |
